Review: The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter

In a case of good timing, The Body Shop Coconut Butter (RRP €18.95 for 200ml) arrived at my door the same day I ran out of my trusty La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm so I was looking forward to trying it out.

If you’re a long time fan of The Body Shop Body Butters then you’ll have noticed that the packaging has undergone a bit of a revamp. They’ve gone for a more streamlined and understated look and I must say that I like it, especially the matte feel of tub.

According to The Body Shop this body butter is ‘Quickly absorbed, it provides round-the-clock hydration, leaving skin feeling soft and smooth with its buttery texture and a delicious tropical fragrance’.

The first thing you notice is the scent which, to me, is just summer in a tub. It smells good enough to eat!

There is, however, one downside to the scent and that’s just how overpowering it can be. It lingers on the body for ages which means that it changes the scent of any perfume you may be wearing. If you’re not a perfume person then this isn’t an issue but, as has been established elsewhere on this blog, I am!

A problem that’s easily fixed though, I just switched to using it in the evening instead of first thing in the morning.

As for the moisturiser itself, it’s a rich cream that my skin drinks up almost instantly and is packed full cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil and sunflower oil.

I can’t judge the 24 hour hydration claims because I use it at night and then shower in the morning. But I can say that my skin immediately feels softer and at no point did it get tight and uncomfortable, as it’s prone to doing if a moisturiser isn’t heavy enough.

Would I actually purchase it myself? To be honest, I’m not sure. Don’t get me wrong, I like it but I think I’d see if I could find a less fragrant body butter from the range and use it in the morning instead. But that’s just a personal preference.

Have you tried this product? If so, how did you get on with it? What’s your current favourite body moisturiser? Let me know in the comments below.

This is one of my favourites but I had the same problem. Sometimes I wear it in summer with no perfume, but I’ve just discovered The Body Shop Moroccan Rose body butter – smells amazing and goes with my perfume!
